In today’s articles, we’ll talk about the ways you can use to improve the quality and quantity of reviews to increase downloads of your App but before that, have a look at how does the user review affect ASO – App Store Optimization!
Usually, when thinking about optimizing a Mobile App (ASO – App Store Optimization), the first thing that comes to mind is to improve visual assets such as the icon or screenshots or focus on the search and optimization of new keywords.
But we often overlook the impact of user ratings and reviews on our Mobile App downloads.
HOW USER REVIEWS AFFECT ASO
User reviews are considered key elements in the positioning of the app as by the algorithms that run applications, the more positive reviews an App has, the higher it will appear in the search results.
In addition to this, high download rates and positive comments can also influence the users when choosing between your App or another alternative.
So now comes the main part, i.e. how can you improve reviews and increase the downloads. Here is the recipe!
1. Convert a rating from 1 star to 5 stars
Rarely the debut of an application gets the 5 stars. At first, there may be errors, performance issues on different devices, or simply, users would like your application to do something else.
This can lead to very low ratings and negative comments at the beginning. But do not be put off. These reviews can be very constructive and will provide you with key information on how to update and improve your App.
So far iOS is not allowed to respond to user feedback, but you can do so on Google Play. Always respond politely. Even if there are negative comments, appreciate their feedback and make an effort to rectify.
Only in this way will you get a change of mind.
It is important that you know how to choose the right time to ask for an assessment. It would not make sense to ask users to rate your App the first time they open it, since they will not know how to use it or know all its features.
Wait for the user to familiarize himself with the App, at least to the third or the fifth session.
2. Get honest reviews from the beginning
The quality of the first ratings and comments may vary, but it is very important that you get contrasted and honest opinions from the beginning.
Instead of waiting for an unknown user to write the first review about your App, you can ask for opinions from your trusted network.
If you have had App testers in the initial phase of your project, ask them if they would be willing to write a review as their’s experience will be more credible than of a new user.
Another good way is to ask colleagues if they would be willing to try and qualify your App, nobody better than them will detect problems and flatter a good job.
3. Improve review quality
Turning negative evaluations and criticisms into positive comments will take time and will require constant work. The faster you respond to user feedback and update your app, the better feedback you’ll get.
As we have said before, it is crucial to know how and when to ask for ratings and comments.
You can do a survey inside your App in the tenth session, if the comment is positive you can encourage the user to publish it directly in the App Store, and if it is negative you can include an email to send your feedback.
This way you will get valuable information, quality reviews and avoid bad public comments.
